UMES HOSTSED HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ALL-STAR GAME

Pocomoke High School Volleyball, seen here in action, sent Helena Pizoa to the All-Star match.

11/19/03

Princess Anne, MD - The top seniors in the Bayside Confrence squared off for a final time at Tawes Gymnasium for the Bayside senior all-star volleyball match. The match featuring the top seniors from the Bayside North against the top seniors from the Bayside South, went to the South team 5-0.

James M. Bennett's Carly Layfield had 12 kills and two blocks while teammate Suzanne Hogg added a team-high 13 kills to pace Bayside South, in a match that was mostly a fun opportunity for the top seniors around the conference to play with many of the players they play against every other match. The South rolled through the first three games and then it was decided to play two more in order to get everyone playing time.

"It was tougher to communicate, but we had a practice and we worked it out," Layfield said. "It was fun because everyone's out here for the purpose of having fun. It's the last game, it's a good time to play with all your teammates one last time. It was just a fun night."

The North was led by Queen Anne's Grace Benton, who had 10 kills and Colonel Richardson setter Briana Czyz had 12 assists.
