The Lady Hawks will get to throw out the ceremonious first pitch at the Delmarva Shorebirds game on Thursday night.

April 30, 2008

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - It is nice to be respected and honored for your achievements. It is even better coming from your peers. One of the Delmarva Peninsula's most respected and well run organizations, the Delmarva Shorebirds, a minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will honor another one of the area's top organizations and teams on Thursday night when the Shorebirds honor the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team for winning the 2008 NCAA National Championship.

Head Coach Sharon Brummell and the Lady Hawks of UMES Women's Bowling will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The team will be introduced to the crowd in and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Afterwards the team will be autographing their posters for friends and fans on the concourse level.

"It is great that the Shorebirds are honoring us like this," said Brummell. "The support from the community and fans has been awesome and we are privileged that we can go out and be recognized by a wonderful organization like the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Following the pre-game ceremony the Shorebirds host the Lexington Legends in a game scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start. Fans of UMES will want to get there early as pre-game ceremonies take place at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Tickets for the game are as low as six dollars for general admission, a bargain to see two of the area's top teams.

Friends and fans of the UMES Women's Bowling Team will also want to come to the campus of the University on Friday at 10:45 a.m. as the school and the Town of Princess Anne will host a Bowling Bash, honoring the team's accomplishments. The Town will also present the team with an honorary "key to the city." The event takes place in the arena of the William P. Hytche Athletic Center and is open to the public.
