PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior infielder Tyler Love is a solid player for the Hawks on the diamond, but recently Love earned recognition for his accomplishments off the field. He was named the Technology Education Association of Maryland's (TEAM) 2008 Donald Maley College Scholarship recipient, recognizing his accomplishments' as a student in the technology field. Love received a plaque, scholarship and Governor's Citation of Excellence. He was selected based on his excellent academic record and active participation in numerous professional education and extracurricular activities. He has maintained a GPA at UMES of 3.7 and also received a high score on the PRAXIS, the national teacher test. In an event held at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, Love earned the award at TEAM's Technology Education Excellence in Education Recognition Program. The scholarship is sponsored by the Bechtel Corporation, a leading engineering firm in Maryland who believes the teacher is key to implementing a great technology education program. Love, a junior, is a technology education major at UMES, the only school in the state with a Technology Education major, and was nominated for the award by Dr. Leon Copeland, Chair of the Technology Department. Love's family, his high school teacher and Hawks head coach William Gardner attended the event. He was presented the award by Dr. Gerald Day, the executive director of TEAM and coordinator of graduate studies for the Department of Technology at UMES. Love and the Hawks open their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) portion of the schedule this weekend when they face the Eagles of Coppin State, Love's former team. |
