HAWKS' KEN RICHARDSON NAMED TO MEAC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

The 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Tournament could have turned out better for the Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Honestly, the whole season could have turned out better, but with such a young team, Head Coach Will Gardner knew it was a year for his freshmen and transfers to get used to DI baseball. After all, the Hawks only had two seniors. Both of those have been four year letter-winners for the program and contributed greatly. One however, went out with a bang, as Ken Richardson earned an All-Tournament selection at the MEAC Championship, a fitting way to cap a career.

HAWKS SEASON COMES TO AN END WITH 7-2 LOSS TO NORFOLK STATE AT MEAC TOURNAMENT

The Hawks of UMES took an early 1-0 lead in the first, got down 2-1 in the third but then tied it at two in the bottom of the inning. Other than a four run fourth inning the two teams played virtually even as No. 5 Norfolk State eliminated No. 6 Maryland Eastern Shore, 7-2, in the MEAC Baseball Tournament at Marty L. Miller Field.

HAWKS FALL TO WILDCATS IN OPENING GAME OF MEAC TOURNAMENT, 13-1

Bethune-Cookman University breezed through the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 13-1 on Thursday morning in the first round of the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Marty L. Miller Baseball Field in Norfolk, Va. The two teams met in the opening game for the second straight year.

The Hawks had a tough weekend in Tennessee as Eat Tennessee State University posted 68 runs on UMES over three games, while the Hawks mustered just 10, dropping all three contests.

Freshman Eric Potter struck out 12 batters in six innings of work and the Maryland pitching staff combined to fan 18 batters as the Terrapins shut out the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 6-0, Tuesday night at Shipley Field.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) managed just three hits in the game. Remo Orsini, Tyler Love and Ken Richardson would account for those, all singles. Orsini would also swipe a bag in the contest.

Freshman Sam Roberts' base knock through the right-side of the infield plated Justin Hess with what proved to be the winning run, as VMI battled back for a 7-6, rain-shortened win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium.

HAWK ATHLETES EARN NUMEROUS ACADEMIC AWARDS

In a year of much athletic success, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Department of Athletics has much to be proud of in terms of academic success. In two recent separate events, many Hawks were honored for their academic successes in the classroom. UMES recently hosted their annual Scholar's Luncheon where the department recognized those athletes who have had a lot of success academically while the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) recently released its All-Academic Team, featuring 40 student-athletes from UMES.

SENIOR DAY IS STERLING FOR THE HAWKS, UMES TOPS LA SALLE 11-7

The Hawks said goodbye to two seniors today and did so in fine fashion, picking up an 11-7 win over La Salle University. The two seniors, both four-year lettermen, played a big part in the game. The lanky southpaw, Daniel Sterling earned his first win of the season with a great outing while classmate Ken Richardson delivered the storybook ending with a hit in his final home at bat as well as scoring a run.

COLONIALS TAKE BOTH ENDS OF A DOUBLE HEADER VS. HAWKS, 7-2, 4-1

Behind strong pitching from Chris Neary and Brian Frazier, the game one and game two starters, respectively, George Washington swept a doubleheader against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park. GW took game one, 7-2, and then won the nightcap, 4-1. Both games were seven inning contests. The twin bill was required when Tuesday's game, originally scheduled on the campus on UMES, was postponed due to rain.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Baseball Team was forced to postpone their game today against George Washington University scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Hawks Stadium. Yesterday and last night's rains have made the field unplayable.The game will be moved to tomorrow, April 30 at George Washington as part of a double header beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Hawks and Colonials will play two seven inning games at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.Fans can listen to those games on-line at www.umeshawks.com with announcer Nick Anastos.
