NORFOLK, Va. - Head Track & Field Coach Ernest Barrett kept most of his distance runners home for training regiments and sent limited squads to compete in this past weekends' Norfolk State University Invitational. While many of the Hawk runners showed well the team's placing wasn't as good as it has been in past weeks when the team was at full strength. The men from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) took fifth place overall while the women came home in fourth place.

In the women's race Tamica Thomas took third place overall and was followed by Celia Whyte. They crossed the line with times of 19:56.00 and 20:03.00 respectively. UMES then didn't have a runner cross the line until 26th place as Danai Lendor finished with a time of 23:28.00 and right behind her Tanisha Wisdom crossed in 27th with a time of 24:16.00. Tiffany Webb took 30th with a time of 24:31.00 on the 3.1 mile course. Corey Otey was 35th and Rashida Beckford was 42nd, the only other finishers for UMES.

On the men's side Clayton James came home in 9th place with a time of 28:26.00 as the first Hawks to cross the line. Samuel Mwangi was tenth with a time of 28.50.00. Jerome Pyuzza was 16th with a time of 29:21.00. While those three typically run the cross-country schedule the next Hawk runners to cross don't and were in 37th and 40th place. Paul Jones-Burden finished in a time of 37:27.00 and Corey Alexander crossed in 40:55.00 respectively. James Moore was the only other Hawk finisher in 41st position with a time of 48 minutes flat on the five mile course.

The Hawks will be at full strength on October 13th, this coming weekend, when they travel to Newark Delaware to compete in the Delaware Invitational #2.
