ATLANTA, GA. - Several Hawks competed at the Georgia Track Last Chance meet on May 11-12 in hopes of improving their NCAA Regional qualifying standards. Merrecia James improved on her NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 800m run when she crossed the line with a new school record of 2:09.20. She originally qualified for Regionals on April 21 at Morgan State's Legacy Meet. The Jamaica native won her section of the 1500m run in 4:32.64. Kimani Kirton fell just shy of improving on his Regional mark in the men's shot put after finishing fourth in his section with a throw of 18.36m (60'3"). He originally qualified for the Regional Championship at the 49er Invite and later improved on his mark at the Legacy meet with his record setting thow of 18.37m. Other notables include Jason Daley's second place finish in flight two of the men's long jump (7.29m or 23'11") and Ronnie Beard's third place finish in the 400m hurdles in 53.55. The Lady Hawks got a first place sectional finish from Tanisha Wisdom in the 200m dash (24.29) and a sixth-place finish from Danieth Pryce in the same event (24.32). Dionne Wright threw 13.94m (45'9") for an eighth place finish in the women's shot put. James, Kirton, Beard, Wisdom, Pryce and Peter Sang will head to Regionals on May 25 in Gainsville, Fla. |
